Why Rockharbor Gives 10% Away
“First fruits” are the first portion of anything we receive. The Bible gives several examples of people choosing to give God this first portion, trusting that he will provide the rest to meet their needs.
Following this biblical model, Rockharbor established First Fruits, an area of our budget through which we give 10% of our income towards kingdom-building efforts. First Fruits dollars are used to support our church planting efforts, para-church organizations, local and global outreach organizations, missionaries and people who need financial assistance. What this means is that $0.10 of every dollar given to our church is directed toward efforts beyond Rockharbor. Together, we celebrate how each person’s individual giving at rh helps fuel some significant God stories in the greater Kingdom.
There’s a couple important things to hear in all of this:
- First and foremost, First Fruits doesn’t exist because we have extra. First Fruits exists because God calls each of us to sacrificial, generous, and regular giving.
- First Fruits only exists because individuals and families in our church are following Jesus by giving their first and best to their local church. In that regard, these stories that we celebrate don’t belong to First Fruits. If you give to rh, these are your stories.
- We believe we are each meant to give the best and the first of what we have away. If you have not yet stepped into regular financial giving at rh, we invite you to do that.

This fund is available to assist individuals in need in paying for basic necessities. Financial aid is seen as a one-time gift. It is not considered a loan. rh attendees who initiate financial assistance must go through the process of completing a benevolence form that includes a summary of their personal information, church involvement, financial needs, current finances, education and employment history, etc. that will be reviewed by the Benevolence Team. Financial recipients must be willing to first seek help from family and must be open to counseling (ex. financial, family, and emotional). If an individual does not qualify for financial aid, the Benevolence Team may assist by directing the individual to the right organization for financial aid, and will help meet spiritual and emotional needs.

In an effort to give to individuals in our communities that desire to make investments back into their communities or a global community, we have established the Missional Investments fund. Support could be given to a community or individual as a matching fund, seed money or grant-based program. Anyone desiring funds would have to fill out a request for support that would be reviewed by the Missions Team.

This fund provides financial support for the church plants that Rockharbor is engaged in or in relationship with. This could be money for church planters’ salaries, capital needs, resources, etc. This may also support programs or organizations that are raising up and sending out new campuses, church planters, worship leaders and other kingdom-expanding individuals focused on local churches.
These organizations represent our deepest level of commitment and support. Rh Strategic partners would receive all aspects of partnership [technical, human, financial and spiritual] Strategic Partners would most likely receive monthly support and support would be designated at the start of the ministry year. We would develop partnership agreements to define the goals and terms of the partnerships. The fund also supports tertiary needs of our partners, as well as individuals who are working alongside the Partner. It also pays for ministry expenses for Rh trips to the Partner Organization.
Our hope is that each campus would have a missional investment and presence in the community and more specifically, organizations that they work alongside, support and bless. This account allows each campus to designate an organization or multiple organization (including schools) they want to support financially through one-time gifts, projects or ongoing strategic partnerships.
A portion of our First Fruits giving goes to support and resource foster and adoptive families in our communities, and support foster agencies with grants and donations. Families going through the adoptive process with private adoption agency can apply for a financial grant to assist with agency fees, travel costs and additional family-member costs.
