We see a constant struggle for power in the book of Acts. Over and over, religious leadersξtry to proveξthat they can play a part in ending the movement of Jesus and His Gospel by shutting down the communication and declaration of this Gospel. But as we saw in Acts 4, and will continue to see throughout the rest of the book, GodÈs plan for His Kingdom to beξadvancedξcannot be stopped by anyone on this earth. His Holy Spirit empowers the disciples (now great in number) to be bold and courageous, and gives them the ability to stand in the face of great persecution, for the purpose ofξadvancingξthe Kingdom.
