Who is Jesus?

The Hope of the World

We were created to have a relationship with God. Without a relationship with God, we are incomplete. Have you ever felt like something was missing from your life; like there was an emptiness inside you that could not be filled? You are not alone. Many people feel this emptiness and try to use whatever they can to fill it: drugs, alcohol, career, money, art, human relationships; the list goes on and on. Yet, no matter how hard they try they still feel incomplete. But there is hope. His name is Jesus.

Jesus is fully man. He experienced the full extent of human existence: physical, emotional, and spiritual. However, Jesus is not an ordinary man. He is also the son of God (1 John 5:20). His purpose in life was to carry out God’s plan to bring hope and restoration to all people (John 3:16). He did this by laying down his life, dying on the cross, and then raising to life again.

In the Bible, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). Jesus satisfies our spiritual hunger for meaning and thirst for fulfillment. He connects us with God’s love and shows us God’s kindness. Jesus made a relationship with God possible by dying on the cross so that we could experience abundant life.

Why Jesus?

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16

Jesus came into this world so that we would never have to be without God. No human is perfect, we have all sinned (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2), but Jesus gave his life as a sacrifice (1 Peter 2:24) so that we would not suffer because of our sin. Jesus’s death on the cross has cleansed us of our sin, set us free, and restored us to God.

Jesus sacrificed his life for everyone. Those who believe this receive all that God offers: grace, forgiveness, and eternal life.

The Bible tells the entire story of Jesus, from the creation of the world to the beginning of the Christian church. If you want to learn more about Jesus, reading the Bible is a great place to start.

Why The Church?

The church is where followers of Jesus find community with one another, worship God, and are equipped to do the work of Jesus in their daily lives.

Because of Jesus's redemptive work on the cross, everyone who believes in him has been set apart (1 Peter 2:9). We have been set apart, not for the sake of being isolated from the world, but to declare God's goodness to the world in a unified voice (Ephesians 3:10). As followers of Jesus, we belong to a family (1 John 5:1) that connects us in spite of worldly barriers. The Global Church is the universal network of Jesus-followers.
The Local Church is a community of people following Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing what Jesus does in a particular conext. We gather to worship God, pray with one another, and learn how to follow Jesus with our whole lives.
